We aimed our OTS, at the film the would have accompanied it at a younger audience, from mid teens to mid twenties. We did this because we wanted to make a film that was daring in terms of conventions, experimental and a little bit different, and research shows that this age range are more open to new ideas and concepts. To appeal to our target audience we built the characters to attract both male and female and appeal do different mindsets, for example; Vee, our 'femme fatale' character is a strong heroine, with few shared conventions with the traditional Noir females, this attracts a female audience, by putting there gender in power and relating to the character through the feminist appeal that Vee has.
Ava Gardner played many traditional femme fatales and from this video we I can compare her style to that of our character Vee: The typical noir female wears enticing and extravagant clothes, or elegant dresses, whereas Vee wears very basic clothes, purely black to show her strength in character and independence. From this video we see the style and makeup of the femme fatales to be very 'sexy'; wavy dark hair, red lips and silver jewelry, we wanted to pull Vee away from this look and give her a simple but interesting look, we cast Katharines sister for Vee as her looks break from conventions with her short died hair and small frame. We used minimal makeup and kept Vee's stature open and confident to show the independence and assertiveness of the character. We feel that the modernised femme fatale we created in the character of Vee was suitable to our target audience because of its innovation and relativity. |
